The TWR XJRS once belonging to Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones is now being fully restored. In poor bodily shape this car will have a full body strip, shotblast and lots of welding – but then it has lots of history!
The current owner wants the original body repaired and prepared to last, with fully rebuilt engine and new interior. Not for the faint-hearted!
RH toe board and jacking point area fabricated, welded and seam-sealed.
Left hand rearsill end and jack point area nearly finished
LH wing and A post welding complete
Boot floor repaired
Complex repairs to under-scuttle
Welding complete, upper body in primer. No, this isn’t the final colour…!
Beginning to look like a car again…
At last! Body in Jaguar Signal red, back from body shop.

Nice to have a new body to work with…
That’s a lot of glorious Jaguar Signal Red!
Just some of the hundreds of parts returned from the electroplaters

Rear suspension built up and ready to fit
More looms & plumbing…
Ready for engine; suspensions in.
Boot area being re-installed. Tank has been cleaned and rust protected.
Internal rebuild starts with looms and the air conditioning
Interior wiring nearly complete. Now you know why no-one wants to remove the air con unit from a finished car!
Every electrical connector is carefully cleaned and lubricated before re-assembly. No more electrical gremlins…
Most of dash and its wiring in plus sound deadening. We use heavy gauge, foil lined material for best performance
…and now with carpet!
Centre console in
Boot built up. Note further rust protection on valances which will be hidden by fibreglass TWR body kit – thus potentially trapping moisture… and rust.
Engine back from reconditioners. Both heads needed substantial work after the engine had been seized and corrosion had set in.
Engine taking shape
Engine complete and mated to the reconditioned transmission
These two haven’t seen each other for 9 months!
and the beast is in. Modified for more power and fully re-machined this will be a lot better than new….
Engine fully installed, and air con being pressure tested
Headlining has been re-trimmed in house
Interior has been re-trimmed in contrasting ‘Oyster’ and ‘Cashmere’ with red piping. Centre sections are in perforated leather. Carpets are red.
First daylight for a while. Signal red is rather eye-catching! Plus a proud Adrian who has done most of the work.
All present and correct at this end….
… and this end.
And the bonnet on at last
Ready for first road test
Interior finished. Gear knob and Steering wheel are re-covered in beige leather; seats are two-tone beige and cream (perforated in centre sections) as are door cards. Carpet is maroon Wilton. Woods are re-veneered in birds eye maple.
