Once again we’ve had the pleasure of having Paul Walton of Jaguar World Magazine come to our facilities in Thatcham to test drive one of our latest Jaguar restorations. With the help of Alan, the owner of this awe inspiring machine, Paul has summed up the final product pretty well in the following article that was published in the November 18 issue of Jaguar World. We’re thankful to Alan for giving us the opportunity to restore his beloved XJR-S and wish him many happy adventures in what is now a ‘perfect’ or should I say Purrrfect JaguarSport TWR.

A thorough restoration by model specialist KWE has resulted in one of the best examples out there.”

Perfect is an overly used word these days. When a waiter asks how our food is, we sometimes answer, “Perfect,” even if it’s not quite there. And when I go on holiday I’ll

We love a good review here at KWE, it’s very encouraging to know we are doing right by these wonderful cars and their owners. This is a recent review from a new customer that decided he wanted to upgrade the handling, ride and all round reliability of his XJ-S Convertible. This work included our full suspension/brakes and steering package, V12 perishable engine service, AC revamp, new convertible hood and also taking care of it’s underside rust and bodywork imperfections, plus other minor issues that needed addressing.

Here’s what David had to say:

“First – thank you for the very professional job that KWE have done on my XJ-S. I feel much more confident about driving it (and stopping it!) after the suspension and braking upgrades.
Similarly I am very happy with all the remedial work you did to the sub-frame which was clearly in rather

Due to the limitations of Insurers in their willingness to pay out, we have to point out that cars on our premises and in our care are covered only to the level of what insurers call ‘Market Value’. This is a vague term open to different interpretations but is usually significantly less than what the owner feels their car is worth. Please read our short article here.

KWE specialist servicing goes above and beyond a standard Jaguar service. We offer the same very high level of attention to detail and thoroughness that we apply to our rebuilt and upgraded cars. Since we routinely strip and rebuild these cars we now make this wealth of knowledge and experience available to owners, and we seek to keep as many of these superb vehicles on the road as possible! Our service procedures include and exceed Jaguar’s recommendations We also offer collection and delivery across the country – free in the Newbury area. We urge customers to have their cars rust-protected since this is what, in the end, can kill off the car.We offer full hidden cavity wax injection with special attention to wheel arches and rear portions of front wings. Being a restoration specialist we have seen many rusty Jaguars and know exactly where there vulnerable areas for rust are, going to extra lengths to protect from or slow corrosion.

We can also high pressure wash the underside, attend to rust by removing loose fragments and neutralising surface corrosion using inhibitors, we then prime exposed areas of unprotected metal before finally re-coating in modern under-body sealant. To prevent over-spray we always make sure to mask off the entire body including important underside components.

In the matter of penetrating rust, we can carry out high quality weld repairs to the underside and body before applying the procedures above. We always inspect the car prior and recommend if any repairs need to be made. To proceed, we send images of the affected area/s along with repair estimates to the client for confirmation.

There are some common rust areas – a typical one is scuttle rot on late XJS'.

Power improvements can reach over 15% for no reduction in fuel economy...The next stage is to improve the exhaust system. We offer stainless steel systems, with or without catalytic converters (only a legal requirement in the UK in 1993 onwards), and with minor to major torque and power improvements. Options include standard stainless steel, large bore and the top of the range system with tubular fabricated manifolds. Various degrees of extra noise is inherent in the performance systems. Power improvements can reach over 15% for no reduction in fuel economy. This has broadly the same characteristics as OEM system, except that it is entirely heavy-gauge stainless steel and will last indefinitely. No performance gains are claimed but as a new system it will not be clogged-up at all so the initial power will improve.Being a larger diameter there is less restriction so power is improved by around 5%, and there is a deeper, louder noise. This is the ultimate system with hand-made tubular (as opposed to mass-produced cast iron stub manifolds) and straight-through silencers. This improves power by around 20% at 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm - just where you need it. To measure any improvements, we also offer before and after Dyno testing. For [...]
This is one of the most important areas to renew and improve on…Our renewed braking systems are more than adequate for the car, but if heavy road use, trackdays or mountain driving are expected then we can offer higher performance brake discs, pads and a vented rear disc option. Need more Information? Please contact us for pricing & availability of our brake and other expert services.
A huge difference in driving experience can be achieved by upgrading your Jaguar's gearbox and drivetrain assemblies.Cars can be converted to 5 speed manual transmission (clutch, gearbox, propeller shaft, differential, pedal box, console modifications) We can also offer conversion from 3 to 4 speed automatic transmission. The differential ratio can be changed to achieve either better acceleration or improved fuel economy (lower engine revs). Limited slip units can be specified along with overdrive systems that can also be controlled by our DEM (Digital Engine Management) upgrade. In addition we can either fully rebuild your worn gearbox and differential to an as new condition, or offer a more basic reconditioning replacing only those parts which are worn. Need more Information? Please contact us for pricing & availability on our Jaguar transmission and other expert services.

Cars on our premises, or being driven by KWE staff, are insured under our Trade Insurance. Please note this only gives cover up to the "Market Value" of the car, NOT necessarily the replacement or expected value. As is standard in the industry, it is up to the owner to provide their own cover (to include KWE) over this value if required.

We would be very interested to hear - and share - your views, good or bad, about classic car insurers. Our clients want to be able to insure their restored cars for what it cost them and this baffles many insurers who go running for the 'book' and try to fob us off with 'market' value for insurance. Some insurers are more enlightened and we'd be grateful to hear your experiences. Please put any comments in the box below, and we will select the most useful answers and share them here. Thanks in anticipation.
